my boy builds coffins by waldorph
Jim Kirk was a legend before he was even an hour old, and legends are never men. They are tragedies and heroes and cautionary tales and they never grow up or grow old, they simply are.
Jim Kirk is a pain in Spock’s ass.
Wasn’t kidding about the waldorph kick! Though this fic isn’t very long, it sure packs a kick. Spock observes Kirk in his role as starship captain of the Enterprise, with all the horrible decisions that come along with it. There is no easy way to be responsible for hundreds of lives on such a ship and when you lose even one life, it can be difficult. This Kirk is a responsible one, who takes his duties seriously, perhaps too much. Hand in hand with that responsibility of keeping his crew alive comes the necessary moments to give the order to end lives, particularly enemy ones. Spock notices that Kirk takes all of this into himself and doesn’t let anyone see what it does to him - until Spock says fuck that. This Spock is more willing to be ruthless when it comes to Kirk’s welfare and I gotta say, it’s kinda hot. The end of this piece, in particular, is pretty damn awesome. Kirk and Spock learn to rely on one another in their five years on space, and if that causes a few raised eyebrows, then I say screw Starfleet. Five years in space is a long ass time. When you build a meaningful relationship with someone like Spock, it’s going to damn well mean something. These two are destined for greatness and it’s interesting to see the shadowy side of that destiny. Onward to more waldorph fic!
