bedrock and brick by lyra_wing

Immediate sequel to the movie, wherein Tony builds Avengers Tower. Or plays interior designer, take your pick.

If this could just happen in Avengers 1.5, I would gladly die happy, ok. For all intents and purposes, the Avengers keep following Tony home so he decides to make places for them each to hang out that’s suited specifically for each Avenger. Somehow this turns into entire floors for each Avenger, which makes sense, c’mon, it’s Tony Stark we’re talking about here. My favorite parts of this fic are where you get to see how Tony incorporates the little quirks of each Avenger into their areas, which he keeps adding as he gets to know them better. It’s not a particularly deep or moving fic, but it does have its personal moments between Steve and Tony as they grow closer. I think my favorite part of the entire thing is definitely the morning after they all spend the night for the first time at Stark Tower. Ah, Clint. You’ll forever have a special place in my heart.

Like Gene Kelly in the Movies by lyra_wing

Everything Tony Stark does is a dance. And it’s super confusing for Steve.

Poor, confused, silly Steve. I shake my head at Steve in this fic. He starts to notice just how graceful Tony is at everything he does: flying, working, walking. And Tony’s just a walking quip, always there to toss out a snarky comment and rile Steve up. I can just imagine the rest of the Avengers in the background scenes of this fic - I know I personally would laugh my ass off at their sheer obliviousness of each other. Reading this fic is like watching two wary cats circling each other. Do they attack? Do they ignore each other? Do they shrug each other off? Wind up as life long companions? It literally takes Steve the whole fic to realize just exactly what his feelings have been yelling faintly in the background the whole time: “Hey! Hey, Steve! You kinda like that dude! Why don’t you kiss him instead?”

If Through a Door by jibrailis

Tony is accused of murder on an alien planet; Steve marries him to bring him home.

Ah, ok, I give in. I like Marriage of Convenience fics, too. I blame it on all the (way too damn many) romance novels I read growing up. The premise of this fic is that there’s an alien planet called Becknazy with advanced technology that contacts Earth and Steve and Tony are part of the peaceful delegation that travels there to negotiate. Except that one of their most beloved scientists is murdered and Tony is the only suspect. A little of this happens, a little of that, and Steve and Tony wind up married. However, they’re not in love with each other, not even a little bit, so it’s basically a fake marriage. But they have to pretend to be a loving couple for the Becknazians benefit and somehow their fake marriage becomes real. Well, for one of them, at least. I love, love, love the way Tony is written in this fic. He’s smart!Tony and bitchy!Tony and kind!Tony and vulnerable!Tony and I’m running out of Tonys so just read this fic ok? Ok.

(There’ll Be Bluebirds Over) the Highway to Hell by what_alchemy

Steve Rogers never expected to find himself back in his original body. He also never expected Tony Stark.

I’ll admit it: I love stories where Steve’s somehow forced to resume his original body and Tony goes out of his way to prove that he loves Steve for who he is and not what he looks like. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Super Solder lovin’, but wee!Steve is just so damn cute and I think Tony would have a freakin’ field day with him. Oh boy, does he ever in this fic. Probably the best part about this fic is that Steve doesn’t just shrug off the fact that he’s stuck in a terrifying new world and he has no idea how to deal with it. He has problems and things to reconcile and he and Tony don’t exactly get along. Theirs is not a picture-perfect relationship from the beginning; they fight and nit pick and are general pain in the asses, especially to each other. The change in their relationship is gradual - it doesn’t just happen over night. No matter what fanfic says, you don’t just wake up one day and think, “Oh, I’m in love with some one of the same sex. Ok!” - particularly if you’ve never had that kind of relationship before. Gotta love the realism in this fic addressing that.

every dong has its day by zarathuse

it’s not the size of the boat, it’s the motion of the ocean.
-ancient chinese proverb

As the author remarks, this is 8k worth of dick jokes that will make your day. Tony thinks Steve has a tiny penis so he goes around making innuendos at every opportunity to reassure Steve that it doesn’t matter to him. And then there are Tony’s…revelations about his previous lovers. In the end, though, we have the fabulous advice of Thor to help Tony get over himself and just go for it. Thankfully, Steve’s not too traumatized. Well worth a read; I promise you’ll be giggling every few minutes.

But Loving Him Is Red by theappleppielifestyle

“It is- it is not just destined, Steve Rogers. It will reach through the decades, through entire universes if it has to. It will scour the galaxies without rest until the two of you are standing next to each other. Migardians-

Migardians call them soulmates, I believe.”

-

Through the decades, through layers of realities, through superheroes and tangles of string- it will always be them.

I like to refer to this fic as the Red String of Fate fic, ‘cause that’s basically what it is: Tony and Steve tied together by an unbreakable red string. Literally. Attached to the pinkies and everything. And while it may seem like a funny concept at first, it’s actually super annoying - can you imagine being constantly tethered to another person 24/7, tripping over it and tangling it everywhere? That aside, this fic also features a really bitchin’ Norse Goddess of Fate that leaves Tony in awe of her snark and wit. Also there might be talk of soul bonds that exist across the many incarnations of Steve and Tony throughout the various universes. And dreams depicting these universes. Awesome.

HI MEGAN I AM SUBMITTING A THING I JUST READ :Db

Rom-Commed By Fate (Or JARVIS) by leashy_bebes

The best thing about being an Artificial Intelligence is the ability to parse, filter and modify the things people say until you’ve got the cause to do exactly what you wanted in the first place. Or, in which JARVIS cock blocks Tony into having an actual relationship.

It’s really cute and includes bits of JARVIS’s codes “interpreting” what Tony says and implementing actions to keep him ruining his budding relationship with Steve.

Thanks to lyzzle for the submission! (:

Dreaming ‘Bout the Day by tellxmebby

Tony/Steve Highschool AU fic based on Taylor Swift’s music video “You Belong With Me”.

Yes, it is as cheesy and fluffy as you can possibly imagine, just from the summary alone. You don’t have to like the song or Taylor Swift in particular to like this fic, however. It’s adorable in it’s own right. I’m a sucker for high school AU fics in any fandom, really, so this was very cute for me. Short and sweet read.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World by ashinan

“Welcome, newbies, to the only class SHIELD has to offer on surviving this shit. I’ll be your teacher today, hi, Tony Stark, Iron Man, CEO of awesome.”

Basically this fic is about the most terrifying Intro to S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents 101 class that you could consider attending. Anything taught by Tony Stark itself would be terrifying, but let’s throw in a little technology to make it worse/even the odds. Thankfully, Captain America is teaching alongside the ever captivating Iron Man, so some balance is maintained. Sort of. A short but funny fic, this one had me laughing from the get-go.

Differing Expectations by haku23

Steve Rogers is Captain America and all he’s ever wanted in life is a wife, two and a half kids, a white picket fence and maybe a dog. Life has a way of surprising people.

I really, really appreciated this different take on Steve Rogers. Many of the fics I’ve read so far have Steve just blandly accepting that being gay in the 21st century is ok, and that’s perfectly cool! However, this fic focused on what might happen if Steve from the ’40s actually had a different take on homosexuality - namely, that he’d never felt desire for another man, that it wasn’t wrong but it wasn’t for him. And then you have Tony, defying all expectations, as usual. I like that Tony is bewildered at first, but then accepting, that Steve isn’t the usual type of person he dates - that he’ll actually have to dateSteve and do the entire “relationship” thing. A very good read, I’ll be looking forward to more from this ‘verse if the author is up to it.
